Eat Your Greens
I am in Houston this week for work so for dinner tonight we headed to a trendy urban area called City Centre which is much like the Shops at Legacy in Plano or Watters Creek in Allen. What's so much fun about these new trendy developments is it incorporates living, shopping and dining all in one central location. I would have loved to live in one of these types of areas before I started a family. I probably would have also been very poor if I lived above Anthropologie and could run downstairs every time I needed a new outfit or if could walk across the courtyard for yogurt at Red Mango whenever I got the urge for a snack!
The restaurant we chose was called Ruggles Green. It is Houston's first certified "green" restaurant. While your average meat and potatoes kind of foodie might turn their nose up at such a label, especially in Texas, they should really take a good look at their amazing menu. They incorporate organic, all-natural, hormone-free, preservative-free ingredients into their delectable menu. I seriously had a hard time choosing what I wanted to eat so we started off with the hummus and the sweet potato fries as appetizers. For my main course I ordered the Tilapia Fish tacos. I normally order grilled fish tacos but the server recommended the fried so I took her recommendation and she was right. They were really good.
I would have loved to try every single dessert in their display case but I was so full from the tacos that dessert wasn't even an option.
The atmosphere was trendy but laid back. We sat out on the patio which overlooked the astro turf covered play area. There were tons of parents there enjoying dinner while their kids were out on the "lawn" kicking the ball around or playing chase with each other. I really wish they had copied that same concept for the urban living centers in Plano and Allen. We always opt for patio dining when we take the kids because it's easier if they want to get up and run around while you actually eat your meal. The weather was surprisingly nice since there was a breeze. Especially for summer in June in Texas!
I will definitely be going back next time I am in Houston for work.
